Can the computer cause me to become very itchy on my limbs?

I use the computer for a very long time every day. Can this negatively impact my eczema? I just went down to eat after spending a few hours on the computer and I got very, very itchy all over my body, especially on my limbs. My nose was also very badly affected (the exterior became badly itchy). I was originally going to blame the food because this has happened before when eating my breakfast (toast, butter substitute, honey, jam, cereal, etc). But I spend so much time on the computer that I am on the verge of blaming it. I don't like this prospect, as I use the computer for a lot of my work and I've got a lot of things to do on it.

What can you make of this because I can't make much of it?

Re: Can the computer cause me to become very itchy on my lim

Hi there,

I'm thinking if you're allergic to eggs? It's not uncommon for people who are allergic to eggs to get flare-up if they are eating at a food court where there's eggs 'in the air' - those severely allergic can have flare-up without eating eggs. I don't think sitting too long will cause a flare-up though... more likely it's idle time so more aware of the itch than when walking or doing something active. Same issue with TV where there's often more scratching when on TV.

Take care,

Re: Can the computer cause me to become very itchy on my lim

Hi there,

Are you working from home?

If not, it could be something as simple as the polish/cleaning product used on a desk.

I had a terrible time with my skin when I worked on the computers at in a University library. My primary trigger is dust and I tend to react to cleaning products. I never discovered what particular aspect of the environment was causing my rashes but I minimised the problem by wearing long cotton sleeved shirts and carrying plain baby wipes to clean the surface before I settled.

Hope you get to the bottom of it and find some relief.

Thank you for your kind sharing :) Yes, it could be the dust, unclean air-conditioning, certain air fresheners, chemicals used to clean surfaces. And good to hear that you've figured out how to keep the triggers away in the library, take care!
