Re: Talking Therapy

The talking treatment that is usually suggested for OCD is cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), which is recommended in the NICE guidelines on OCD. CBT is very practical and would aim to help you to confront your obsessions and resist the urge to repeat your compulsive behaviour.

But there are many other types of talking treatment, and you may feel that something more reflective, for example, would suit you better. If you would like more information about the different types, you could look at Mind's information page here: http://www.mind.org.uk/information-supp ... h44GG5HOy1

Re: Talking Therapy

Hello, different talking therapies help different people. Counselling and CBT can help with problem-solving and finding solutions to help. Hypnotherapy can help with finding out why this happens to you and to teach your brain different patterns to cope. I think you are completely right to investigate and push for talking therapies as well as medication. Good luck, Dr Webberley

Re: Talking Therapy

Dear Lisa

Thank you for your post - the talking treatments for OCD recommended are cognitive behaviour therapy and if you as your Gp for a referral to your local improving access to psychological treatment services known as IAPT - there are also some specific charities for OCD which include OCD UK, OCD Action and anxiety uk - all of these have excellent materials on OCD

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Karina
