Bladder Issues
Hi there I was just wondering if as a 49 Year Old male - I was told that I have a Neurogenic Bladder & have a Suprapubic Catheter inserted. What I was wondering is if there is any test that can be done to see if there is any issue with either my Prostate or another area as the doctor is not sure why myself in the family ended up with this & everyone else is clear. I have also noticed that getting an erection is also very hard to reach maybe because of the neurogenic bladder nerves.
Any help will be great.

Hi Shane, sorry you have to put up with this, not very nice for you. I guess we may never know why this has happened to you and nobody else. The only prostate tests are really the cancer PSA test and scans. What have you tried for your erections? Have you tried the viagra type pills? Have you tried the penis injections? Dr Webberley

If you have a diagnosis of neurogenic bladder and have a suprapublic catheter (SPC) then some tests must have already been done. However, there are alternatives to a SPC, such as intermittent self-catheterisation and sphincterotomy + a conveen. If you haven't seen a urologist for a while it would be worth asking your GP to refer you. Treatment for your erectile dysfunction could also then be discussed.

as Chris says other tests should already have been done
These should have included urodynamics- bladder pressure studies and probably an MRI scan of the spine to see what has caused this.
You may need to see a functional urologist with an interest in this if you are going to keep investigating the cause further.
Sometimes BoTOX injections in the bladder can help with the symptoms..

Hello Shane,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing some challenges managing your catheter and sexual health at the moment. I can see you have been given some excellent advice so far and strongly suggest you visit your GP and request to be referred back to your urologist for a review of your current situation.
May I also suggest contacting your local Continence Team for some additional support and perhaps consider other options in relation to your catheter. As it has previously been suggested there are many alternatives which may suit you better and improve your quality of life.
Best of luck
