Prostate problem?
I drink a lot of alcohol so I understand why I need the toilet 5 or 6 times a night, but when I sit down to the toilet I then have to stand to finish, is this normal?

No, it isn't normal. Do you have any other urinary symptoms? If not, and it doesn't bother you then there's no need to be investigated. On the other hand, if you do and/or it is bothersome then ask your GP to refer you.

Hi, as you get older the prostate enlarges and this can press on the urethra - the pipe that lets urine out of the bladder. This can stop the flow when you are sitting down and maybe this is why you have to stand to finish when the pressure of flow is less. You need to make sure your prostate is benignly enlarged (as opposed to cancerously enlarged) and your GP can give you a check with a finger examination of the prostate and also a blood test. If they have any concerns then they can ask a urology specialist to see you as well. There are some tablets that can help to shrink the prostate as well, so it is worth getting it checked with your GP.
I hope this helps,
