Makeup to cover rosacea
I'm looking for a bit of a makeup tip (or maybe several). I've got extremely pale skin. My foundation colour is usually called "light ivory" or something else that would equate to "pale as a ghost". However, I also have rosacea. The permanent colour is a pale-to-medium pink, but when I blush or have a flare-up, it can be dark red or even purple-red.
I can cover most shades of the pink or lighter red with primer-foundation-powder or just primer-foundation when I use the high end stuff.
However, when I have a bad flare-up, it shows through virtually everything because it's nearly impossible to find a "light ivory" foundation with very good coverage. Other than for stage makeup, it just doesn't seem to exist for people as pale as me.
I have tried using green concealer and green primers but because the foundation is very pale, it shows through and looks muddy.
Does anyone have tips for something to apply under a great foundation to cover the red but that won't show through a very light colour of foundation? I'm lucky that I only need it very rarely but when I do, it really matters. I'd be very grateful if you'd share!

Hi Julie!
A tip you can try is using a good moisturizer or primer, after that use mineral foundation (like baremineral for example, or any loose powder mineral foundation, doesn't matter is the color is not 100% your color, but as close as you can) this will add coverage. After the powder, use your normal high coverage foundation, only a thin layer. On top you can use more translucent powder or not, as you prefer. That way you will have full coverage without cakeyness!
Let me know if you try, it works for me Cheers!

Re: Makeup to cover rosacea
Hi AliPrenda,
Thank you, that's a great tip. I just had a dermatologist tell me that mineral makeup might be a good option for me, so it sounds like you give good advice, too.
My natural skin tone is extremely pale, so it can be hard to find a foundation that will provide very heavy coverage. Lately, I've been settling for "good enough" instead of "great". I'll head out to the shops this weekend and see if I can find a sample-size mineral makeup product so I can patch test it and see how it reacts with my skin. If that works out, I'll try the strategy you've suggested. I have high hopes that it will give that added coverage I've been trying to achieve.
Thanks again! I'll let you know if it works. If it does, I know I will be singing your praises!

Thanks for asking, Helen!HelenLouise wrote:How did you get on with the make up testing Julie? I hope you found something that works well.

I recently tried mineral makeup quite unsuccessfully, but then I was fortunate enough to have someone point out that there is an actual "technique" to applying mineral foundation makeup for the best coverage.
Instead of sweeping it on as I had been doing, it uses a swirling method, topped off with a mist of thermal water. The effect is fast and pretty impressive.
I'm still looking for the right mineral concealer powder for my skin tone (trying different brands/shades of yellow and pale green), but for now the mineral powder is certainly good enough for the type of coverage I'd need on a regular day. At least it doesn't make my symptoms worse!

I don't, but I have two friends with rosacea who absolutely swear by it and who have been telling me to get it for about 6 months now. It's the next line I plan to try. I just need to wait for my current makeup to run out.Geckoella wrote:Has anyone tried Clinique's anti-redness range?
