Identifying the cause - advice?

Hi everyone,

As people have different triggers for their condition, how did you go about identifying the cause of your breakouts? I've seen countless lists online of different environmental and food factors that are responsible for many people's difficulties, but how do you actually go about pinning down your risk factors - other than just watching out for the signs and tracking back to situations or meals you've eaten?

Some people have suggested a breakout diary , but does anyone else have some methods they could share? Are dermatologists able to run tests - as they do with allergy skin tests?
