I think I have rosacea. Lately, when I get out of the shower my face, particularly my cheeks, are red.

I am of fair complexion and always been highly coloured on my cheeks and in later life had increased spider veins, for which I've had laser treatment, on my face.

Does anyone know if there is an increased chance of developing rosacea in later life and is it connected with those menopause years?

Also, what recommendations do you have for treating it? I can cover it up easily enough with make up but how can I treat it? I also seem to have little spots - they type that aren't squeezable on my cheeks too which I've never had.

Thank you in anticipation of your help - here are some photos so you can see what it looks like.

Re: In my 50s and think I have rosacea

Rosacea can pop up at any time in life. Usually it's in early adulthood, but I've recently spoken to a few people who have developed rosy cheeks during peri-menopause.

That said, it's impossible to diagnose rosacea based on pictures. Rosacea can present in exactly the same way as certain other conditions such as adult acne, eczema and even lupus or certain other skin and autoimmune conditions. Even your doctor won't be able to tell without actually ruling out other possible conditions since rosacea is a skin disorder that doesn't have its own test.

It may just be your hormones messing with you as your body temperature and the heat of your shower warm you up a bit more than usual. It could even be that you're experiencing hot flash-like symptoms in the shower but aren't able to tell because it feels like the heat is coming from the water. Or it could indeed be rosacea or something else.

I'd highly recommend speaking with a physician or dermatologist before you start making lifestyle changes to try to treat it, just to make sure you're treating the right thing. :)

Thank you for your feedback. Always good to hear from someone who know they have the condition.

I'll take your advice and make an appointment to see my doctor.

Thanks
Daisy

I hope your appointment goes/went well and you have some ideas for keeping the symptoms under control!
