Living with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain disorders

Hi everyone,

My name is Aimee, I am 25 years old and have been suffering from Fibromyalgia for around 7 years but only diagnosed at 23 years old.

You can read my story here on the Talk Health Story Board: http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/ta ... .php?c=110

Currently my pain isn't managed but I am working through various different medications, infusions etc with my local Pain Clinic. I am at a point in my life where I am in a wheelchair if I need to walk any further than to my car and back. Obviously this isn't the way I want to live my life at the age of 25 but I am struggling to improve my condition - It's gradually getting worse.

So everyone - If you're suffering from either Fibromyalgia or any other chronic pain disorder, what do you do on a daily basis to manage your pain? Do you experience flare ups or are you like me and experience no improvements regardless medication? Are there any treatments or therapies that you use to manage your symptoms?

If you are suffering and feeling like you need to speak to someone who can understand exactly what you're going through, this is a nice safe place to connect with others going through the same thing and I would be more than happy to offer support to anyone who feels like they need that extra bit of support :)

Re: Living with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain disorders

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus two years ago. I have been having treatment that has improved my life somewhat. Now, after a great deal of pain, I have been told that I also have Fibromyalgia. I am very confused as my Rheumatologist has written to my GP saying that I have 'probable' rheumatoid/lupus and 'probable' fibromyalgia. I am also in constant pain from osteoarthritis in my lower spine. I am taking so many pain relief treatments that I can't understand why I still have so much pain. Well now I have been referred back to pain clinic who said there was nothing more that can be done for the osteoarthritis. Lord knows what will happen when I see pain specialist again. I thought I was getting somewhere with the rheumatoid ( methotrexate tablets and Cimzia injections) Watch this space. I have appointment with pain clinic on 6th May. I am so despondent. I thought I was coping. I just want to be told what they advise next and hope it's not more medication.

Re: Living with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain disorders

Hiya love, thank you for sharing your story. I hope your pain specialist is able to find something that works for you. I understand what you're going through, it's awful when you're rattling from all the tablets you have to take when you don't feel much benefit, if at all. I am having second opinions too now, seems to be baffling specialists and sounds like you're in the same boat.

Let us know how you get on with your appointment and I will keep you in my prayers x
