Bites

At the beginning of June I was bitten twice on my leg by a creature.... I went to the doctors and they prescribed antibotics, which I finished, but now my skin is still discoloured where the bites were. Is this normal?

Re: Bites

Dear Elaine,

Unfortunately, insect bites often result in hyperpigmentation and can sometimes leave you with areas that are dome shaped.

I recommend that you try skin camouflage cover creams because they will hide the discoloration. You can also wear skin coloured hosiery over the top and the cover creams will say in place.

Try a matte base or primer before you apply the cover creams, particularly if the area is raised. Also, break the rule of thumb and use the tip of a professional brush, head down on to the area that you camouflaging.
I would choose a fixing spray over a setting powder, or look at skin camouflage brands that don't require setting.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Re: Bites

Dear Elaine,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your question.

I also agree entirely with Vanessa that insect bites can sometimes leave some pigmentation change in the skin. This is more common in pigmented skin but can happen in all skin types, particularly if there was significant inflammation. Some of this should improve as time goes on over the next few months. In the interim, if the appearance bothers you then I would also agree that camouflage cover can be of benefit.

Best wishes,

Anjali
