Hearing loss or just an earwax problem?

Hi,
My name is Cindy. I am troubled with hearing loss issues. I am an art student and I have to communicate a lot to my fellow students because we have tons of projects that we need to complete in a single timeframe. But I can't focus at all because I have difficulty in hearing them. It's not only them, I can't hear most people and I have to ask them to speak loudly and repeat whatever they said slowly. Especially when we are in groups or on the phone. Even though they oblige, I am sure that they find it a little bugging. I feel horrible because I am causing trouble to them and because of that I can't even concentrate on my projects. My friends asked me to visit a hearing specialist here in London because they see me struggling every day. I have taken an appointment and I have to wait and see how the results come out. I just hope that it is an earwax problem. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Is it something I should be worried about? Please do share your thoughts and experiences.

Re: Hearing loss or just an earwax problem?

Hi Cindy,

Welcome to the talkhealth forum. We are sorry for the problems you have been experiencing.

Hearing loss can come from a multitude of different causes, such as earwax build-up and growing older. We glad to see you have gone to a hearing specialist as this is the best way to get an understanding of what is causing the problems.

Hearing loss can obviously have a huge impact on the emotional well-being of someone, and you are very much not alone. We have an article exploring this connection here: http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/bl ... wellbeing/

We hope your trip to the hearing specialist helps you identify the underlying cause of your hearing problems. Please do let us know how you get on.

I think this is a common issue that many of us are facing today. If we diagnose it in the initial stage itself, then we can cure it easily. All you have to do is to consult a good ENT to confirm this.
