Types of Brain Strokes

The most common type of strokes, which is caused by a blood clot. A clot can form in an artery that supplies blood to the brain. A clot that forms in another place can travel through the blood vessels until it is trapped in one that supplies blood to the brain. When the blood can not reach a section of the brain, brain tissue in that area dies because it is not receiving oxygen.

In addition to blood clots, an arterial dissection can also cause & basal ganglia stroke symptoms. An arterial dissection is a tear in an artery that supplies blood to the brain. As a result of the rupture, blood can accumulate within the wall of the arterial vessel and cause obstruction of blood flow. This pressure can also cause the wall to explode, break or leak.

The other type of stroke is called Lacunar stroke. This is when a weak blood vessel bursts, causing blood to build up and pressure to build up in the brain.
