Ear canal function and their disease

The ear has external, central and internal parts. The outer ear is called a pinhole and is made of striated cartilage covered with skin. The sound passes through a pinna to the external ear canal, a short tube that ends at the tympanic membrane (tympanic membrane).

The sound causes the eardrum and its small, attached bones in the middle part of the ear to vibrate, and the vibrations are transmitted to a nearby snail. The spiral snail is part of the inner ear; transforms the sound into nerve impulses reaching the brain.

Liquid semicircular channels (labyrinth) attach to the snail and nerves in the inner ear. They send information about the balance and position of the head to the brain. Auditory tube drains fluid from the middle ear to the throat (throat) behind the nose.

Meniere's disease a condition in which the inner ear on one side does not work well. Dizziness, tinnitus, hearing loss and pain are common symptoms.
