Throat and Tonsil pain

Hi all,

22 yo Male - Pharmacology student :)

I had an extremely sore throat starting about 2 weeks ago, lasting for about a week.
Symptoms included: Swollen tonsils bilaterally, fever, lymph nodes extremely swollen, couldn’t eat or talk properly due to soreness and pain from the inflammation. I didn’t seek medical advice and after the week the symptoms disappeared

— Lymph nodes in neck remain swollen and enlarged between the above and below.

Starting 2 days ago, the right side of my mouth is swollen, with associated ear pain, enlargement and pain of right hand side lymph nodes in neck and beneath jaw, drooling, unable to open jaw past 3-4cm between upper and lower teeth. General weakness and fatigue

Any suggestions on what could be wrong? My thoughts: Quinsy or Tonsillitis or Glandular fever

Thanks in advance

Hi JamesS125

Thank you for your post.

We would recommend that you do get yourself checked out by a doctor so that any necessary medication can be started sooner rather than later.

Please let us know how you get on.

Kind regards

Relieve tonsil pain:-
1) Get enough rest.
2) Drink warm or very cold fluids to ease throat pain.
3) Eat smooth foods, such as flavored gelatins, ice cream, or applesauce.
4) Use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier in your room.
5) Gargle with warm salt water.
6) Suck on lozenges containing benzocaine or other anesthetics.

The most common complication is a build-up of pus around the tonsils – known as a peritonsillar abscess or quinsy. This may develop if the tonsillitis is caused by bacteria, and can get better again without treatment.

The weakness and fatigue comes from not getting enough sleep. Try salt and use a lot of anti bacterial mouthwash, that is what i did. Over time it worked.
