deling with a woundthat is very slow to heal

I am dealing with a wound on my ankle...right on top of my ankle bone. This has been a 2 yr experience of surgeries (6) and using various products- such as collagen. and antibacterial ointments.. to help in healing. I am non-weight bearing and have a splint I wear every day. My mental stress is increasing as this continues to heal so very slowly. I would like to hear from those that have dealt with a similar situation and how they got through it! I am not able to drive (for 2 yrs) and the isolation is horrible. I am tired o asking for others to drive me around or help me with basic daily needs- such as vacuuming and cleaning my house or going grocery shopping. I am depressed and anxious about how much longer this will continue. If you have any suggestions or experiences that may help me find a new perspective, please share with me! if you have used any product that promoted wound healing, please share with me! Thank you!!!

Re: deling with a woundthat is very slow to heal

Hello steelerskim - thank you for your post.

I am really sorry to read your post as it certainly sounds like you've been through and are still going through a tough time both physically and emotionally. What has your doctor said about your wound in terms of the healing process? Have you been referred to a specialist?

That said, the emotionally impact sounds relentless. It must be really hard trying to stay so positive day to day and I can understand how isolating you must feel. I do hope some of our members will be able to shed some light for you on things that have worked for them that might help you.

What might be of interest is a free Patient Support Programme in wound care that we are launching with Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust - which is open to all. I'm not suggesting it's going to provide all the answers, but it might help you both with the physical healing and the emotional stress. It should be launching in February, but you can sign up now in readiness if this is of interest. You can find out more via this link - http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/psp/wound_care.php

Best wishes
Deborah

Hi steelerskim,
I can understand your problem. It's really a painful situation.
In my opinion, you should consult with an experienced doctor, because a doctor is the only person who will understand your problem and guide you to recover soon.
Thanks!!

In my view one of the best ways to reduce the visible appearance of scars and skin blemishes is to use lavender oil on a daily basis. Constant use of essential oils will lighten the appearance of the mark on the skin.
