Micro Needling for scars

Has anyone had any experience of micro needling or dermo rolling for scars (and wrinkles)? I'm looking to invest in a dermo roller for use at home and have come across conflicting information about the material used for needles and the length. Some sources say only to use rollers with stainless steel needles, and some say only use titanium needles. Some sources say no need to use needles longer than 0.3mm to get effective results at home, others say up to 1.5mm is safe to use if not operated by a professional.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Micro Needling for scars

Dear Sandy,

When it comes to needling for scars, research suggests that in order to get a regenerative effect you need long needles; ideally 3mm long (this needs adjustment depending on exact part of the body treated) and yes for long needles you will need an experienced professional to perform the procedure for you.
The home kits available have devices with needles of less than 1mm but their regenerative effect is not significant-they should be used for mesotherapy (i.e delivery of substances through the top layer of skin)
I have an interest in surgical needling i.e for scars and striae. If the area is small the procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic.
I hope this helps your enquiry.
