Feeling out of Control

I am about to turn 40 and in the last 4 years my bladder has gotten progressively worse!

I have had 1 child in 2001 and did all the pelvic floor exercises as instructed and had no issues. Now if I laugh, sneeze or cough I can't control my bladder. Heaven help if I have a sickness bug as I found out after a very boozy Christmas party just gone. I had to go to the bathroom as I stupidly mixed my drinks and found myself throwing up but also having my bladder totally empty all over the floor and I couldn't stop going! Luckily I wasn't sharing a room or it would have been so embarrassing.

I also cannot hold going to the loo like a used to.

Can someone help me or give me some idea why this is happening and what I can do about it as wearing pads all day every day is affecting my confidence. I also will be going on holiday in August and I want to be able to wear figure hugging clothes and swimsuits without the worry of any accidents :?

Re: Feeling out of Control

Hi there Astraea,

So sorry to hear you're struggling with this!

Your story about throwing up and losing bladder control simultaneously doesn't sound like much fun at all.

Is it something you've asked for help from your GP with? I do understand it's maybe not something that's easy to talk about but just remember that's what they're there for. They can also offer you an NHS continence service, which is staffed by specialist nurses, sometimes called continence advisers.

Have you taken part in our bladder survey this month? Final results aren't in but from what we've seen so far you're absolutely not alone! Hopefully other community members will have some further advice over the next few days.
