What a nightmare!

Hello – I can’t believe what a shock it is to have continence problems. Didn’t know such a thing existed until I had my first born and how it can really affect and damage your life if not careful. Following a long and protracted birth after my first born, I stood up to find water just pouring down my legs – I had no idea what it was. When it dawned on me what was happening, a hospital cleaner came up to me and said “..that must be very embarrassing” –not really as I was in a state of total trauma! Fortunately I only suffered from bladder incontinence, but it is an ongoing battle to cope with the day to day issues that having such a problem throws up.

Re: What a nightmare!

Hello Josie - and welcome to the talkcontinence forum. I think that lots of people who have these problems can undertand exactly what you are saying. Certainly any new health problem is a shock to the system and then the more you read about it the more you find that you are not alone as many others suffer too. Although it would appear that many with continence issues certainly suffer in silence. Having spoken with the talkhealth team, I decided to become a moderator as I think this is an excellent place to chat with others about the day to day problems. Its not something that you would like to necessarily share with your friends but its good to find others to discuss and understand the problems connected to such a condition. Look forward to chatting with you further!!

Re: What a nightmare!

Hello Everyone. I am new to this forum. I keep reading `talk to your doctor`. Well, I did. She prescribed Ditropan. It was like a miracle for a about a week. After that I had excruciating cystitus, so I gave them up and returned to my bladder problems. has anyone else experience of Ditropan< M.

Re: What a nightmare!

Hello magworth - welcome to our forums. I hope that others who have tried Ditropan may be able to give you their feedback.

Have you been back to your doctor since you stopped taking Ditropan? And how did you get rid of the cystitis? It might be worth talking again to your doctor about the medication and perhaps the dosage.

I do hope our forums will help you. Keep us posted on your progress and what your doctor says if you decide to go back to him/her.

Also, might be worth talking to one of our gynae experts in our online clinic on gynae issues opening from 21-27 March

Re: What a nightmare!

Many thanks for the replies. I haven`t been back to the dr. I must go before I go on holiday. I took cranberry tabs and drank a lot but it took many weeks to clear - it still comes back occasionally. I am VERY old - maybe it`s something I have to put up with ! M.

Re: What a nightmare!

Unfortunately I missed the forum that closed yesterday as I meant to ask a question along these lines. I have been recommended TOT a sling or something and would like peoples general opinion. My first and last born is now four but I am not looking forward to school sports days or returning to tennis without having an op. Any thoughts?

Hello bikini - welcome to our continence forums. We do hope one of our members will be able to comment upon or help you with your question. So sorry you missed the gynaecology clinic this week. Have you spoken in detail to your GP or seen a specialist at all?

If anyone can offer any help to bikini please post here. Thank you.

Hi Josie, Magworth and Bikini! (I think that's all the new posters in this thread!)

Welcome to the forum :) If you are looking for a bit of advice about a problem, or just a friendly ear, you have found a good place. If it is an issue that has not been brought up in another thread, just start one (the moderators can advise you how) and that way you can see all of your replies in one place. It can also help others to recognise symptoms that they may be experiencing, or give advice on ways they have found to deal with it.

I look forward to chatting to you all in subsequent topics,

Bill. 8-)

Re: What a nightmare!

Many thanks ti all those who have given helpful advice. I hope the young mother (is that bikini?) has been helped. I`m still having a bit of difficulty finding my way around this forum !
I`ve been back to the doc. She says cystitis is not caused by Ditropan, so I`m giving it another go, as I am about to go on holiday and sharing a room so don`t want to be running to the loo all night ! best wishes, M.

Re: What a nightmare!

Hallo, I am new to this forum, hope I am posting in the correct place.

I have always tended to have a weak bladder and since my twenties also had various problems with my stomach - mostly charging off to the loo with diaorreah after a meal, not every day of course, just frequent enough to be a damn nuisance. Some days I am fine, although I do tend to be loose most days and have to go 2 or 3 times a day. The weak bladder I think is "urge incontinence" rather than stress incontinencne - I think I have got that right - I have had investigations in the past for a weak bladder.

I think my pelvic floor is non existence since the forceps delivery of my first child 20 years ago, and a lot of stitching with the second. I do pilates classes, and regular pelvic floor exercises, but the only thing strengthening is my jaw from clenching my teeth! lol!

I am joking, but I am really freaked out! I have just had the most awful bowel accident returning home from a walk, got the key into my front door thankfully just as it happened - complete change of clothes etc. I am appalled - never have I not been able to make it home before. There was absolutely no control whatsoever - my bowel had a mind of its own. I realise from reading some of the posts that a lot of you suffer with this, but the first time - crikey.

I had a hysterectomy for a womb prolapse, now this. Is this pelvic floor problems? What do I do now? Go see my GP? I am 56, eat sensibly, exercise regularly, and suddenly feel like an incontinent old lady! Any advice gratefully received.
