Reoccuring water infections

First of all Hi, I am new to this site. My name is Michaela I am 25years old and live in Newcastle UK.

I have suffered from reoccuring water infections ever since I was 16, I have been in and out of hospital and have a file on UTI. kidney infections and so fourth, my file from this is about the size of a file that you would put college work inside of and is full to the brim.

I have had cystoscopy tests/ x-rays MRI scans and Ultra sounds. However each time nothing is ever found I do have 2 cysts in my left kidney but the hospital believe that my reoccuring UTI and the cysts have nothing in common. It's affecting my day to day life as I feel very incontenent when I do have water infections and have woken up to my bed being soaked on several occassions.

Above all the hosptial keep telling me there is no explanation for why I suffer this badly from UTI, I am giving codeine for the pain and they work to an extent. But I don't want to take these constantly I just want to know what the cause is.

Has anyone suffered like this with no explanation and how do you cope with such a thing?

I have had to self-catheterise since developing nerve damage from a functional B12 deficiency, and/or mercury sensitivity, and am prone to continual UTIs. I have been on a prophylactic antibiotic for almost 4 years now and wonder if this is causing my high BP. I had high BP for 13 years before beginning B12 when it normalised within a week and remained like that for 2 years. Unfortunately, I was unwittingly exposed to a significant amount of mercury vapour and my BP went berserk and has never stabilised. However, this time it is the diastolic figure which is the most troublesome. Could the continuous antibiotic be causing this worsening of my BP? I became resistant to Trimethoprim so now alternate monthly between Nitrofurantoin and Cefalexin (I am resistant to them too but they are still preventing infection).

Is there any other treatment available to keep away UTIs from catheterisation?

Hi there,

I'm not sure if you are even checking this posting anymore, but hopefully you will. I self-catherize in order to pee and used to get infections CONSTANTLY - once every two weeks, and the only reason it was that "infrequent" is because I'd be on antibiotics for 1 of those weeks. My saviours have been:
1) Biomed Basic (Alkalanizing) Powder, 1 tsp in the morning and evening, on an empty stomach. This makes the liquid in your urine more alkaline and:
2) 1 heaping teaspoon of D-mannose in water. I use the Waterfall brand. Important: Sip this intermittently throughout the day. Don't gulp it all in one shot. (The Biomed you can gulp in one shot). I put it in a thermos and just carry it around with me throughout the day. This gets rid of the e.coli and about 95% of bacteria that causes bladder infections.

I haven't had an infection in years.
