Incontinence

Hello I am 27 years old and been suffering with incontinence sine I was 20 years old after suffering a bad fall and landing on my lower back. I find it very difficult to deal with and embarrassing I hid it for a long time and now I am seeing a specialist I feel I am getting no where fast and still find it so embarrassing. I leak urine all day every day and also have accidents, I am on my third different med as first two didn't work and I use fem soft inserts which are great but I find them difficult does any one else have experience with these?

Re: Incontinence

I can understand your problem. There are many people like me and you out there. We often feel embarrassed in talking about our situation. That's why we also sometimes avoid in consulting to doctor. I am also suffering these incontinence problems from many years. I took every treatment that was recommended by doctor. Unfortunately yet did not get any improvement. Right now i am using incontinence briefs and incontinence pads. However it is not a permanent solution but as a temporary measure, they can really help in saving my quality time from being housebound or spending all my time in the toilet.

Re: Incontinence

I used to be one of those women who, on country drive had to stop every hour to visit the loo. Then, I suffered a stroke, and in hospital for several months with nurses for whom providing a bedpan to a bed bound patient was unimportant, my bladder started to retrain. I also stopped drinking coffee due to the foul coffee provided in the hospital, and by the time I came home, my then partner and I would joke that they had given me a new bladder. But coming home with easy access to a toilet, going back to drinking coffee, and the damage to my hormonal system by the stroke, I went back to needing the loo every hour, mostly. If i went out shopping, I would have to avail myself of the public toilets at least once on a 3 hour outing, and I often found that I had wet myself because I had tried to hold off going because I was embarrassed to have to go so often. I was prescribed Vasopressin, which mostly worked, except that it dehydrated me and caused me headaches, so I gave up on that, then I heard of IPL treatment for incontinence, paid $1800
(no rebate) for that, only it did not work for me because I have the wrong type of incontinence for it to be successful. So it does not matter now since I am home all the time and can go to the toilet when I need to and I do not have to worry that anyone will notice the amount of time I spend in the loo. Bonus not!

Re: Incontinence

I too have incontinence issues. Began over 10 years ago. It was embarrassing and I didn’t seek any medical attention despite having frequent UTIs. I used incontinence pads. Because I reported issue with my GYN (was there to get mammogram). Upon a exam, she found my vagina, rectum and bladder were prolapsed. She said after surgery, I should not have further problems. I did and they were worse. Now totally incontinent. Even having problems with bowels too. As long as I don’t eat, I have no worries with accidents. However if I limit fluid intake, I have severe kidney pain. I must add that I also have spinal stenosis and multiple disc issues from my Army days. I spend significant amount of my money on incontinence briefs. I would entertain a catheter for improved quality of life and decrease the risk of infection and skin related issues that accompany frequent urinary incontinence issues. However I see this option encouraged more for men then women. I know when I can no longer control the bowel incontinence, my life will be over. Just can’t live with all that embarrassment. These incontinence issues have taken a very active and social life and now reduced to rare excursions out of my house.

Re: Incontinence

Pelvic floor muscle shortcoming is a typical reason for these side effects. Changes to the nerves controlling the bladder, entrail or pelvic floor can likewise bring about loss of control.

Viable correspondence can decidedly affect the patient-supplier dynamic in various ways. It can permit patients to be better taught about their own wellbeing, which could empower them to embrace proactive wellbeing and health systems.
