Overactive bladder

Hi,

I'm in my 30s and have had problems with an overactive bladder for about 15-20 years. Thanksfully I am finallly able to talk about it openly with the doctors and nurses that I am seeing. They are amazing and I feel really thankful for and supported by them but I find it tough not being able to hear from other people who are going through the same thing as me, which is why I've joined this site.

I've tried 2 oral meds (vesicare and lyrium (?)) and kentera patches, but am still having problems (symptoms of urgency, urge incontinence and incontinence without an urge, all of which seems to be from overactivity of the bladder rather than pelvic floor-related problems). I'm chaning to try Tovias now to see if this can improve things. I have ok days and other really bad days - I'm sure some of you can relate to that!

I'd love to hear from others of a similar age who are going through similar things as I'm sure I can't be alone in this!

all the best,

Lily

Re: Overactive bladder

Hi,

I can understand your problem. There are many people like me and you out there. We often feel embarrassed in talking about our situation. That's why we also sometimes avoid in consulting with our doctor, but one thing we should know is that by doing so you are not doing any favor to yourself. You must know that incontinence is a common problem of thousands of people in this world and this can be treated only be understanding it. I want to thank this forum for giving us a platform for talking about our problems and for their help in finding solutions.

Hi Lily,

You're not alone. I'm 37 and alas have to wear pads as meds had no effects (other than awful side effects - constant thirst that made me drink tons of water, you can imagine what happened next!). I still feel pretty alone but site like this help. Good luck and if you fancy a chat get in touch...

Re: Overactive bladder

Bladder problems are very natural and nothing shameful in talking about this openly. I am glad you have taken good medication and copped up with it.

Re: Overactive bladder

Hi-My name is Jose and I am 59 years young, and I have IBS and prostate cancer and I found this out because I have had a very overactive bladder for the past few years. After going to the free clinic last June I will FINALLY be starting my prostate cancer treatments the last week of October and my doctor prescribed me Viagra that I am supposed to take beginning the week before my treatment begins. I don't have a lot of money (the treatment is taking every bit of my HSA) and he told me there were places online I could buy it and save some money, as Im going to be working a lot less during the treatments. Also, I am wondering if anyone has taken Viagra and if it affected your over active bladder issues at all?

Re: Overactive bladder

Hi, my names John, I'm 39 years old and I'm new to this site. I've been suffering with Incontinence since a car accident in 1998 but didn't consult my doctor until this year when it started to get worse. I've just been to hospital last week for urodynamics and they have diagnosed me with a highly over active bladder, I've tried all the medications and none of them worked so they put a i dwelling catheter in which I've now had for 6 weeks. The doctors have now said that I've got to have an operation where they will inject Botox in the wall of my bladder. If this fails/doesn't work then they have said I will end up with a supra pubic catheter !!. I've never talked to anyone about it apart from my wife and immediate family. Would love to chat with people with the same problems.
