self catheterisation discomfort

After bladder retention I was fitted with an indwelling catheter. after 7 weeks this was removed and I have been self catheterising for 5 days. I can sometimes urinate small quantities on my own. My problem is in the morning I wake with the urge to pass water, I cannot go on my own but using the catheter does not relieve the feeling . I am suffering some discomfort . Is there any thing I can do please?

Re: self catheterisation discomfort

Hello and thank you for posting in our forum.

Have you spoken to your GP or practice nurse at all? It might be worth ruling out any infection.

It might be worth taking a look at some of the articles on the talkbladder hub:

http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/ta ... erview.php

http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/ta ... theter.php

We also ran a bladder clinic last year and there could be some information that might be relevant from that clinic - https://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/f ... .php?f=942

We are also running a series of Ask the Expert sessions with The Urology Foundation - the first one is next week http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/on ... health.php - with others to follow.

As a first port of call it is worth speaking with your GP. Please let us know how you get on.
