outlet obstruction

HI

I've just joined the forum today and need to ask you whether you have any experience of obstructed defecation.

I've had this condition for around 7 years or so, and have had botox in the pubo rectalis muscle 6 or 7 times, which helps with the bm's but wears off over time. However, the last twice the botox has not worked and I really don't know where I can go to next. I have an appointment with my consultant on 24 December.

Some background information:

I'm female, 57 years old, have had two x rectal prolapses, 1 x bladder prolapse, 1 x intussusception, 1 x small bowel prolapse - all these have been repaired over the past four years or so. I also have a connective tissue condition, which is possibly the cause of my problems.

I have awful trouble with bms, which I can only do by having by knees at chest level and, having hypermobile hips and arthritis, is really painful, so this position is unsustainable.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Katy

Re: outlet obstruction

Katy,

Sorry to see you are experiencing a difficult time at the moment. Whilst I cannot offer you advice I just wanted to pop by and see how you are doing? You wrote that you had an appointment with a specialist on 24/12, how did that go?

I know that this is someway off and not very useful to you at the moment, however we will be running an online clinic in July specialising in bladder, bowel and digestive health. I have included the link below as there is an email reminder button which will alert you when the clinic opens, obviously we hope you find some advice before then but it is definitely worth bearing in mind.
