Hi Sue,

Some people find finger or wrist splinting can offer support and ease pain on bad days. I suppose it might be worth considering the gel option (if it's inexpensive), but best of all would be to get some medical advice about your hands. The first referral after the GP would generally be to a physiotherapist to evaluate the problem and teach you strengthening exercises.

Even with small joints your overall arthritis self-management has a role to play. Overweight can fuel small joint arthritis as well as in bigger weight bearing joints. And if your supporting muscles are in good condition they will be able to protect your painful joints - so doing gentle hand exercises is recommended.
