What could it be?
On behalf of Sarah:
My partner recently found a lump in his testicle. The doctor said it was nothing serious - but it still hasn't gone away. Where should he go to get a second opinion?

He should ask for an ultrasound scan. If the GP can't arrange this quickly then he should ask for an urgent referral to a urologist under the 2 week rule pathway.

Hi
most testicular / scrotal lumps are harmless - the commonest lump is an epididymal cyst - these are located at the back of the testicle (or at the top) in the collection of tubes called the epididymis that sit attached to the testicle itself. Your GP may well have been confident that this lump was separate from the main body of the testicle and therefore able to reassure. These lumps do not go away - occasionally they increase in size, but they are harmless and can be removed if they become problematic.
If he is worried, see a GP again and ask to be re-examined. If in doubt, a testicular ultrasound will give a definitive answer, and we arrange a lot of these from primary care.
I see a LOT of men with testicular lumps, and the vast majority are absolutely harmless. it is really important though that both you and your husband feel confident that you know what the problem is and feel reassured he has been properly assessed.
Get him seen again, but try not to worry - the odds are firmly in your favour that this will be a harmless lump.
