Biopsy

Hi
I will have biopsies of prostate taken next week. My prostate is very slightly enlarged. PSA was 5.8 three years ago and 7 now. Can this be anything but cancer?

Re: Biopsy

Yes, absolutely. The causes of an elevated PSA are many, but if there is a cancer present then we must pick it up early to have the best chance of cure. The only definitive way to do this is a biopsy. Uncomfortable and inconvenient, certainly but the stakes here are high.

Re: Biopsy

Definitely make sure you have an MRI prior to your biopsy if you havent already had one. This can find other causes for a high PSA e.g. large prostate gland and enable specific targeting of any abnormality. It may also guide the best method of doing the biopsy.
