My newborn has very dry skin

Hi - my little girl is 4 days old and was born with really dry skin. My midwife has told me to use olive oil on her skin but she cries when I do. I think it might be hurting her. Can you give me some advice and perhaps an alternative cream please?

Re: My newborn has very dry skin

Great question!

There are currently studies going in the uk looking at the importance of moisturising babies skin.

I would advise a very bland greasy moisturiser similar. Your gp can advise on the exact one.

Best wishes

Re: My newborn has very dry skin

also a humectant like glycerol (3 parts) with 1 part rose water can also in babies and toddlers when other things irritate but its not as hydrating as the greasy mositurisers
