Dear Maralyn,

Many thanks for taking the time to post a question. Psoriasis in the ears can be a nuisance! The problem usually waxes and wanes but it is common for it to be worse in the winter months. When psoriasis is very active - and the skin is red, inflamed, itchy or scaly - it can be helpful to apply topical steroid ointments or anti-inflammatory creams (Protopic, Elidel) to calm this down for short periods of time. Bringing the inflammation and dryness under control may reduce the overall picking.

I'm uncertain how old your daughter is but your family doctor or dermatologist will be able to recommend a suitable strength of steroid treatment based on her age.

I hope that helps!

Best wishes,

Anjali

Very good advice from Dr Mahto. Warm olive oil drops can also help soften the psorasis scale and reduce itch.
