Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
From TH member - I have psoriasis (recently diagnosed) and am very concerned about the fact I am more likely to get psoriatic arthritis now. I have read that 30% of people will go on to get PA which sounds like a very high percentage.
Can you please offer some advice - for example is there anything I should be doing to decrease my chances.
Thanks

Re: Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
thank you. This is a very important issue. If you have psoriasis and suspect that you may have joint problems you need to see your GP. If your GP confirms that you may have psoriatic arthritis or if your family doctor is not sure, your GP will refer you to a rheumatologist for further evaluation.
I hope this is helpful.

A very good point. It is important to diagnose psoratic arthritis early so that it can be monitored and treated before erosive joint disease occurs.

Re: Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
Many thanks for your question. You are absolutely correct that some people with psoriasis are at higher risk of developing psoriatic arthritis. If you have any concerns about persistently aching joints it is important to let your GP or dermatologist know so that a rheumatologist is able to review you. Blood tests measuring inflammation and x-rays can be helpful in diagnosis.
