Hi, can anyone help? My 16 year old who has been diagnosed with PLE for 10 years has now been told she has aquagenic utercaria, ( allergy to water). She has trouble keeping clean as every type of cleanser or soap has water as its main ingredient. Even the hospital Drs ask how she washes. The answer is painfully. When exposed to water, rain or even tears and sweat she comes up in hives and wants to scratch her skin off it is so painful. Any help or advise is very welcome.

So sorry to hear about your daughter. Have you seen a specialist at the hospital?

As this is a rare condition, we don't have any information about it at talkhealth. However, these links may help (however we can't vouch that this information is accurate, and we would recommend you speak with your GP):

Hope this helps.

Thank you for those sites. Yes, she was formally diagnosed at Guys hospital, London. She was also diagnosed with PLE and solar sensitivity. They have said the treatment for the aquagenic utacaria is UVA which will activate her PLE and solar issues.

Gosh - it all sounds very stressful for you both. Please do keep in touch and let us know how things go. And I hope the sites were useful.
