Alcohol allergy/intolerance help

Hello
Looking for people who have experience of anything similar to us.
My daughter (19) seems to have some sort of allergy/intolerance to alcohol. Three times she has ended up in hospital after drinking the smallest amount of alcohol. 10 mins after drinking it she ends up in agony with stomach cramps and violently throwing up, which leads to her getting dehydrated.
She’s in hospital now this is her 9th day she’s had a ultra sound scan, a CT scan both were clear. She’s had heaps of fluids anti sickness and a super strong IV antibiotics. Every time she asks about wether it could be an allergy/intolerance the doctors just shrug it off or tell her no. But surely it’s too much of a coincidence. Each time her symptoms have got worse! We’re so frustrated. We have paid to have some allergy tests done as one doctor said “it’s almost impossible to be tested on the nhs”
The first time she had gin, the second time a shot of vodka that was in December. She hadn’t drank anything since then but then had a kopperburg cider which she always is fine with. So she assumed she can drink cider and had a thatchers cider about two mouthfuls and 10 mins later she’s in agony and been hospital ever since.
Are we barking up the wrong tree or has anyone else heard of this or experienced anything like this?
Thanks
Marianne

Re: Alcohol allergy/intolerance help

You're not barking up the wrong tree: your daughter is allergic to alcohol. She'll simply have to be vigilant when going on nights out and family occasions.

I would also advise her friends are told about her allergy to alcohol: they'll make sure she's protected.

I can't say why your daughter has this allergy but she will simply have to avoid alcohol at all costs.

It would also be advisable that she gets an allergy test as well as a liver function test just to help rule it out as a liver issue.
Agreed.
