Facts About Eye Allergy

Allergies can affect the eyes too, causing it to turn red, itchy, burning, and watery eyes and swollen eyelids. It is caused by a glitch in the body’s immune system. Typically, both eyes are affected by an allergic reaction.


Here are some allergy assistance you can do:

Artificial tears. It moisten the eyes and helps to dilute accumulated allergens. It is also a way to prevent the allergens from sticking to the conjunctiva.

Antihistamine eyedrops. They work by blocking histamine receptors in the conjunctiva.

Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). They reduce redness and swelling, making them useful in treating itchy eyes.

Other Tips:

Sudden allergic reactions and swollen eyes can be assisted by cold compress.
After using eyedrops, keep them refrigerated to soothe the application.

Apply cold compresses to your eyes to help reduce the allergic reaction.
Use artificial tears/lubricating eyedrops as needed to help flush out allergens that get into your eyes.

Itching, redness and burning are some of the symptoms of eye allergy. Avoid these allergies by,
. Close windows during high pollen periods.
. Wear sunglasses when outdoors.
. Wash your hands after petting any animal.

Sally Heep and meerakannan, thank you for your contributions of information. I'd like also to add that Oral antihistamines can also help in the medication for eye allergies. Plus, they provide longer-lasting relief.

If you feel any Itching, redness and burning in your eyes, you should be very careful.
Protect your eyes from dust and sun rays, wear sunglasses when going out, wash your hand before toughting your eyes.
Visit a good eye specialist for proper care.

If you are suffering from Eye Allergy then try to minimize your exposure to allergens. I suggest you take your antihistamine and use allergy eye drops as needed.
