diverticulitis diarrhoea/constipation

After having an emergency bowel op , ending up with a Colostomy stoma then a failed reversal and then a Ileostomy stoma before finally being reversed to no stoma. My husband have suffered from bouts of constipation , then diarrhoea, His stools go like ribbons we then know the diarrhoea is on it's way. He takes buscopan for the cramping pain(up to 8 a day) He has seen his consultant who basically said he has to live with it, can you suggest anything to help.

Re: diverticulitis diarrhoea/constipation

Has he taken or is taking a regular laxative to keep things moving. It is not unusual for a bowel that has become quite constipated can then lead to sudden loose stools as everything gets expelled. A regular safe daily laxative would be 2 to 3 or more sachets of Movicol a day

Has this been tried?

Re: diverticulitis diarrhoea/constipation

Hi

Thanks for the reply, he has used movicol. This then lead to going to toilet more frequently, can go between 10-15 times a day without it and even more with it. Also finds his stools become very sticky and not formed,
