I,b.s.

I have been told that I have I.b.s. But my symptoms have changed. I cannot empty my bowel completely and need to toilet several times in a day. I cannot clean myself after each occasion as there is always feaces just inside me and toilet paper always stained. I started very recently using micro enemas to try to solve the problem. The bowel problems mean I suffer a lot with smelly wind and I am unable to socialise because of this. I had tests about six months ago. I was told the problem was the result of nerves, and no physical cause. Is there anything that can help me with day to day management of this condition.
Thanks.

Re: I,b.s.

Hi. That all sounds very difficult, particularly if you don't feel that you can socialise because of the problem. Have you tried a talking therapy? IBS can often be related to stress/nerves/emotional difficulties which a talking therapy might be able to help with. The IBS is now having a significant impact on your life if you are isolating yourself which perhaps a talking therapy might help you with. Perhaps you could speak to your GP and find out what psychological support is available to you? The longer you live without a social life, the harder it might be to find the confidence to develop one again so please don't wait. There are lots of forms of support out there, whether it's via your GP, or through a local organisation/charity/private therapist in your local community. Good luck.
