How long can you keep suncream for?

Is there a way that you can tell if your suncream is no longer effective? As some of them don't have expiry dates on them is it safe to still use them several years after purchasing them?

Dear Paula,

Many thanks for your question. Sunscreen should not be kept indefinitely. Whilst many are supposedly designed to last for up to 3 years and maintain their initial strength, once opened and exposed to extremes of temperature, they are unlikely to last this long. Sunscreen should ideally be stored in a cool place. If there is any change in its texture, smell or consistency it should be discarded.
