Itchy Scars

I've an historic scar to the face, some 16 years or so old now but one which was very severe at the time, following an unprovoked attack where my face was viciously slashed, resulting in 47 stitches needed to patch it up and 2 follow up plastic surgery operations to get it looking as best they were able. However,as well as they did with these two ops,and as rarely as people ever notice the scar,I see it daily and always will I'm sure.It does become a little more apparent in the summer,if I catch the sun as I'm naturally fair skinned too,and despite whatever topical applications I use to treat this it still sometimes itches very midly regardless. So I wonder what else I might do to treat this please and will it get even less noticeable as I continue to use moisturisers, vitamin E oil on it and the like?

Re: Itchy Scars

There are a lot of things we can do to help scars with itch and the options are many:
a) Massage and moisturisation- I am sure you have tried this!
b) Laser-cost is an issue with this option
c) Steroid injections/tapes
d) Silicone tape/gel
Referral to a scar specialist might help you to decide what option might be best for your scar.
