confused!
Following a TKR I had an incredibly itchy scar.As a result of this surgery, I also experienced a lot of nerve damage which resulted in a large area of numbness(Which I still have) how then, was I able to feel the itching? If you were to touch the area I would not feel it,yet the maddening itch was very clearly felt.Makes no sense to me !! any ideas?

Re: confused!
Following surgery it is very common that initially the area is numb because the skin containing nerves had to be cut open. During healing the nerve endings try to rewire and whilst sensation is never complete, they are still active so they can respond to substances released during healing like histamine, which cause itch.
There are a number of measures you can take including massaging the scar with firm circular movements, applying cold moisturising cream/lotion, silicone patches to mention few.
Best regards,
