Re: Blocked pores
Hello. Thanks for the question which is actually very pertinent because we know that pore blockage is a major cause of acne. Before an inflamed acne lesion starts the skins pores can become blocked at a microscopic level, unable to be seen by the naked eye. Treating these is a key way of preventing inflamed red spots from developing. If you have lots of blackheads and whiteheads the best treatment is a topical retinoid- a vitamin A-like medication that can be obtained from your GP or dermatologist on prescription. Another good prescribed option are azelaic acid preparations. Commercially available washes and leave on preparations containing salicylic acid can be useful, and if you are getting red spots it is well worth trying a low-strength benzoyl peroxide cream.
