5 year old still wetting himself

On behalf of Michelle...
My son is 5 years old – and doesn’t seem to care whether he wets his pants or not... it just doesn’t bother him and I would have thought by now he would have grown out of this. He doesn’t do it every day – but at least 3 times a week. I have read a lot of things as to what to do but nothing seems to work really. Do you think I should see a doctor about this now?

Michelle

I would say as a urologist and parent that this is still within the normal range
but worth going to see the GP if you are concerned, they will check the urine for any abnormality.
There is usually no specific easy fix for this, just patience and time.
It is very unlikely to be any major underlying problem and he gets it right around 70-80% of the time so reinforce those pre bedtime and early am voids.
You could try pull up pants inside in the evenings.
I would think he will grow out of this in a year.
