Child not sleeping

Hi

With the recent heat my 5 year old's eczema seems to have got a lot worse and just isn't able to sleep due to the itching. What can I do to help him?

Re: Child not sleeping

Thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear your child is having difficulty sleeping. The summer can be a difficult time for those with eczema as often the heat and or sweat can irritate the skin further and cause more itching. I would suggest using fans to cool the room at night and ensure your child is sleeping in light loose cotton clothing. If the eczema has flared it would be advisable to see your GP for a short course of steroid creams to settle down the eczema. It may also be beneficial for him to take an antihistamine at night before bed. Some antihistamines such as piriton and ucerax are sedating antihistamines so in addition to relieving the itching, should also help him get some sleep overnight.

Best of luck
