Eye eczema
What is considered the best and safest treatment for eye eczema. My son also has keritoconus and is allergic to pollen and house dust mites. He is trying not to rub his eyes but finds it very difficult when he gets a flare.

Re: Eye eczema
Many thanks for your question.
The general principles for managing eye eczema are the same as for other parts of the body. I would recommend:
1. A gentle emollient wash for him to use daily to cleanse the skin
2. A moisturiser to be applied to the eye area at least 3-4 times per day
3. A short, sharp burst of steroid ointment e.g. hydrocortisone 2.5% or eumovate ointment for a few days followed by an anti-inflammatory (non-steroid) based cream such as Elidel or Protopic. These are available on prescription from your GP or dermatologist.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Anjali
