Frequent Hand Washer

Hi

I suffer with eczema on my hands, particularly during the winter. I am a frequent hand washer so this doesn't help the issue but I'm looking for a treatment that remains on my skin even after washing but doesn't feel like a barrier cream. Any suggestions please.

Thanks

Re: Frequent Hand Washer

Many thanks for taking the time to post your question. It is very common for hands to be dry in the winter months - they are the most exposed part of our body and can easily dry out in cold, windy weather. The problem can most definitely be exacerbated by frequent hand washing.

Some simple pointers -
1. Get into the habit of wearing gloves as soon as the weather gets cold to protect them from the elements
2. Use an emollient hand wash rather than scented, fragranced or foaming washes e.g. Dermot 500, hydromol etc - there are many on the market
3. Get into the habit of moisturising after each hand wash
4. At night, use a rich emollient on both hands then pop them in cotton gloves overnight to improve hydration whilst you sleep.

I hope these help.

Best wishes,

Anjali
