Why does Vitiligo spread and can I prevent it?

I suffer from Vitiligo and have patches that have started to spread from my face onto my neck.

Can you tell me what factors are causing it to spread please? Is there anything I can do to slow down or preferably stop the spreading?

Dear Wayne,

sorry to hear about your vitiligo. vitiligo happens when your immune system is out of balance and recognises skin cells which make pigment as foreign and attacks them. we don't know yet exact triggers of vitiligo or its flares. It course is unpredictable and it may resolve spontaneously. Available treatments balance the immune system (steroid creams, tacrolimus cream, uvb)
