Advice for adult acne

On behalf of Philip

Several years ago I was diagnosed with adult acne and was put on medication that dried my lips, which has never fully worked. I have small white pimples on my chest, one or two large red ones and three ingrowing hairs. Everything itches a lot! Plus it looks atrocious. Advice?

Re: Advice for adult acne

Dear Philip,

thank you for your question. It sounds like you had Roacutane/isotretinoin medication. This medication works for the majority of patients but unfortunately not for everybody.

It sounds like you have some acne or possibly folliculitis ongoing. However acne usually not itchy so you may also have an element of dermatitis. I wonder if you may like to see your GP and ask for a prolonged cause of acne antibiotics and also some treatment for dermatitis for instance elidel cream and cream moisturisers and moisturising soap substitutes such as cetrabene or aveeno creams.

With best wishes,
