Hereditary?

My husband has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is under active surveillance. He then found out that his brother has a higher Gleason score and needs surgery surgery. Does this put our sons at greater risk? Father in law sadly died last year and although he had prostate problems cancer was never mentioned. His father possibly suffered too.
Would appreciate any information that might help our sons and grandsons.

Re: Hereditary?

Your sons should probably have a PSA test at 40-45 yrs old.
Yes they are slightly higher risk
Your husband may benefit from an MRI scan and a template biopsy to ensure he is safe for active surveillance in the longer term

Re: Hereditary?

Thanks. My husband has had MRI scan and biopsy done.
Haven't heard of template biopsy??
Will let sons know at what age to ask for PSA test.
Hopefully when grandsons reach that age research will perhaps make that not necessary....
