folliculitus

Hello. I'm a type two diabetic and no matter how good my sugars are I constantly suffer from folliculitis and on two occasions the infections got so bad I was hospitalized, what causes my problems?
Thank you in advance.

Re: folliculitus

Hi there,
You don't mention where the folliculitis is.

Some people do have a tendency for their hair growth to irritate the follicle, or for hair removal eg shaving to just irritate the hair follicle.

You may also have a slight imbalance of good/bad bacteria on your skin or a growth of an unusual type of bacteria eg MRSA or PVL staph - types of bacteria than can cause recurrent problems. Also, have they checked to see if you carry bacteria in your nose?

I would advise that you speak to your doctor about how to move forward. Regular antiseptic washes can also be helpful to reduce the bacterial load on your skin.

Best wishes.
