Struggling to find a safe eczema treatment that works for me

I was diagnosed with eczema a few years ago and I have lost count of how many different treatments I have tried over the years as I have tried both prescription and over-the-counter treatments, but none have worked for very long.
I have to be careful with what I use as I also have asthma.

What would be the best treatment for me to use as there's lots of new treatments, but I'm not sure which ones to try.

Hi there,
If you are struggling with eczema, hopefully you will have seen a dermatologist? If not, do ask your GP for a referral.

Avoiding soaps and shower gels is important, as is using a regular unfragranced moisturiser. Most people with eczema can be safely managed with prescription creams of steroids or newer creams known as calcineurin inhibitors (these are good for delicate areas like the face). Most people are understandably cautious about using them and often under use them, but the reality is that on balance and under medical supervision they are safe.

If these are not working, light therapy under a dermatologist (NOT SUN BEDS) can help and there are some tablets which work by suppressing the immune system - these need to be discussed on a case by case basis with a specialist. There are also some newer injection based therapies, which are just emerging.

The bottom line is you should be able to get your eczema sorted one way or another. Good luck!
