I find that if I cover the cracks (which can be deep) with a waterproof plaster and leave it on for a couple of days - the soreness goes and mine heal up under the plaster. I use Nexcare waterproof plasters - the clear ones that are virtually invisible but I have only ever seen these in Singapore where I buy them up. They actually stay stuck on. My cracked skin is due to psoriasis on my hands which thankfully because of constant moisturising is not as bad as it used to be. I do have to keep them out of water.

Thank you very much for your question. I am very sorry to hear about your problem which is common. It may happen in such conditions as dermatitis and psoriasis. It is important to moisturise on a regular basis. Greasy moisturisers tend to sting less and are usually more effective. In addition you may stronger treatments like steroid ointments, phototherapy or strong systemic medicines like Toctino. Your GP may be able to prescribe steroid ointments and/or refer your for other treatments or allergy test - patch testing to a dermatologist.
I hope this is helpful.

With best wishes,
