spot breakouts after 40

I am over 40 and I get spot breakouts on my cheeks a week before and/or after my period. I know hormones can play havoc with our skin but I thought I wouldn't get sports after 40. Is there anything I could do to prevent them?

Re: spot breakouts after 40

Thank you very much for your question. It sounds like you have adult acne. Flares may be related to periods. Yes there are treatments available. You can try benzoyl peroxide over-counter or you can ask your GP or dermatologist for a stronger topical treatment - Epiduo gel (a fixed combination of a retinoid and benzoyl peroxide). Oral antibiotics can also be added. The ultimate treatment is Roacutane/ isotretinoin but this is a very powerful medicine and should be used under a close monitoring by your dermatologist. If it is of interest to you, you can read more about acne and available treatments on my website http://alexandroff.org.uk/Patients.html

I hope this is helpful.
