Scaly legs

Have dry skin generally but my legs are particularly bad. They are very scaly and look like dry cracked mud even after moisturising !. They have been like this for a number of years now and I have tried numerous over the counter creams. I think I may have brought about this problem myself by sitting over the top of a fan heater in winter for up to 8 hours a day for a number of years. Can you recommend any over the counter treatments as I don't like to bother my doctor with what he may consider of little importance.

Kind regards

Mollie Thorp

Re: Scaly legs

Dear Ms Thorp,

I am sorry to hear about your skin problem. If you skin is very dry I suggest to try epaderm ointment, hydromol ointment or cetrabene ointment. If you would like something less greasy you can dry aveeno cream, cetrabene cream, oilatum cream, doublebase gel. Sometimes you need also a steroid cream if your skin is inflamed and this can be prescribed by your GP or dermatologist.

I hope this is helpful.
