Re: Moles
Hi there,
Moles usually develop when you are young and as the skin is the biggest organ in the body, moles can grow with you. That means, as part of the natural history of a mole developing, a mole can get bigger, become more raised, become darker, lighter or even disappear all together and all these changes can be completely normal and healthy change. The only problem of course that skin cancers can present with all of these changes too so as a dermatologist, I don't think I will be ever out of job!
Helpful resources include www.bad.org and www.dermnetnz.org
If you are unsure about your moles, being a skin cancer surgeon, I think it's always best to have them checked out by your GP or a dermatologist.
All the best!
